Paula Solin of SolinDesigns creates unique comfortable pieces for hardcore ladies and lads of leisure.

Tell me about how you originally got into your craft, Paula.
Uncontrollable curiosity. ....I was left alone with a steel Singer sewer for many hours at a time.

What is your favorite thing to do in the whole wide world?
It always changes for me.  Sometimes it's the thoughts of people opening up their Ooak pieces in sheer joy, other times it's sitting around with my family at the end of the day with hot mugs in our hands.

What is your biggest challenge when it comes to running your business?
It's all a challenge.  That's why I do what I do.  Never liked anything easy. Taking time off is a reward but also a necessity in order to recharge your batteries in order to give my best.

When you were a kid, what did you think you were going to be when you grew up?
Tattoo artist or fashion designer. My parents wanted me to become a classical pianist but I always knew that that was just an outlet for my emotions.

What item in your collection would you like to receive as a gift if someone were shopping for you?
I won't be to modest here.  Everything I make I would wear and happily receive!

What other artists out there do you love?
Love is a strong word.  I love the work of Valentino, Akermann, Nicholas Ghesquiere, ...the list goes on and on.

What does your future hold?
Hopefully my hard work will pay off.  I'd like to keep my company small but big enough to host a few workshops internationally.

At the 21st All Souls Procession, November 7, 2010 you'll be able to see my work hanging high above the crowd as aerial performer Aurelia Cohen entertains you in a costume not to be missed.
