Dewarren Moses is a Performer/Entertainer from the small county of Edgecombe, North Carolina who grew up on a farm working hard, attending church, and listening to good music.
How do you describe your music to people, Dewarren?
Fresh, Smooth, and Energetic
Tell me about how you originally got into your craft.
I started out writing poems. I founded out later they where really songs and after writing a song for my sister wedding (with performance and all) I got together with my other sister and we became Moses & Moses.
We told ourselves to be serious we needed a producer. So I walk into a recording studio one day off the street and told the first guy I saw that I was a singer and want to sing. He told me to sing. So I did. He then got on the phone and call a guy out to the front and he told me to sing. I did. He gave me his card and we had our producer and started writing and recording songs. The producer was Ollie Cotton. I didn' know at the time he was working with Doug E Fresh.
What is your favorite thing to do in the whole wide world?
That's pretty hard to say because there's a lot of things I like to do. If I really have to say, it would be on stage, in front of people, doing what I love to do, perform.
What is your biggest challenge when it comes to running your business?
Getting up and starting over again and again and again. Loving myself through the good, the bad and the ugly, just never giving up. Believing in myself and knowing if I stop then truly I'm finish. So I always tell myself "POP going get up and do his thang" and keep working toward that that I choose with all I got even when people don't believe or don't want me to succeed.
Well I can say it now, I truly know it ain't over nite and sometime some businesses need a little more time and love to truly develop.
Will you still be there? That is the challenge.
When you were a kid, what did you think you were going to be when you grew up?
I didn't even know you grew up. I start thinking about what I wanted to be when I heard other people talking about it. For some reason I always said when I was growing up that I would be a Dentist. Wow!!!
In what way has your community impacted your development as a musician?
Being from a poor community it beautiful because you get to hear all the so many dreams that people want, to succeed in life. Where I'm from you know that dreaming can be the thread of life that keeps you going.
It like who would of believe it type of thing because sometime things do happen, so you never know [who] help me develop as a musician just because I said I can sing. People and experience.
What other artists out there do you love?
I love Mary J Blige. Usher my man and of cost Michael Jackson who I believe wasn't from this planet. I love all the greats you name them I Love Them.
What does your future hold?
It hold what's giving to me. Good or Bad, lets go be alert stay alive.
