Handmade Rinkrash

At Handmade Rinkrash, Syd (also known by her derby name "Liz Dexic") has all things roller derby! Printed onesies, earrings, hand cast resin necklaces, pouches to keep your skate tools in, and plans to expand to heatpacks as well.

Tell me about how you originally got into your craft, Syd.
I have made things as long as I can remember. I got in trouble as a youngster for taking over my mom's Singer and sewing paper. Sewing was the first thing i really focused on, went into jewelry making, and then back into sewing.
Only in the past few years, has the direction of my shops really come into focus. I also tend to be the go-to person for my friends and my derby league when someone needs a back patch for a shirt, curtains made, dresses hemmed, shirts tailored, you name it!
I also have always loved to make customized gifts for special occasions, as I can make it personal and just for that recipient.

What is your favorite thing to do in the whole wide world?
I honestly cannot pick just one!
I love to spend time with my kids, a 5 year old daughter, and 10 month old twin boys, and husband.
My second love would be, of course, roller derby! I love being an active part of my league, Mason-Dixon Roller Vixens
Adding new tattoos to my collection is also high up there on my list.
In between kids and derby, when I have quiet nights alone, I love to be able to sit and make my ideas actually come to life, and create my items.

What is your biggest challenge when it comes to running your business?
Finding a solid block of time to get a large amount of things accomplished.
Right now, I am working in 1-2 hour spurts, depending on naps, bed times, and in between taking care of household needs, and being at the skating rink.
Honestly though, I can say at this point in my life, I am quite content with the way things are, and that's a great feeling!

What item in your shop would you most like to receive as a gift if someone were shopping for you?
Well, for a baby or child gift, these would be rad!

For myself, something like this would be quite fitting.

When you were a kid, what did you think you were going to be when you grew up?
I had many stages of what I wanted to be. I went through a veterinarian, a famous painter, a ninja, yes a ninja, a writer, a photographer for National Geographic, a doctor, and on and on. But I have always, always wanted to be a mom and create.

What other shops or artists out there do you love?
Well, I really, really love Glittersniffer on Etsy for makeup, I bought a 10 pack of eyeshadows and use them for bouts.
I have a few for soaps, and my team mate, Harper Scary is a great graphic designer! She helps me out with my ads.

What does your future hold?
My ideal future would be:
Hubby and I owning a large, old home and having the funds to do a 50's style overhaul.
Making as much with my craft as my husband brings home from his job.
Still skating with MDRV.
The kiddos being happy and healthy.
and crusing around in the rat rod my hubby plans to build.

It's hard to nail down a specific life plan, because of how things change constantly, but as long as my family is happy, healthy and together, I think things will work out!
