How do you describe your music to people, Talitha?
We usually tell people the best way to get an idea of what our music sounds like, is to listen to it. It's hard to label what we sound like because we have so much different instrumentation. Between the two guitars, keyboard, vibraphone, and female vocals we create some sort of rock with a driving rhythm section.
Tell me about how you originally got into your craft.
As simple as it sounds, the love of music really drew us all together. We started out just jamming and really knew we wanted to continue to work together. The basis of our band started out with our two guitar players, myself (Talitha, on keyboard/vocals), and our drummer. For a while, we had a revolving bass player until we snagged Dan, who used to play bass with our drummer in high school. The vibes were added because we all knew Reese was talented and it brought a unique sound to the band we all enjoy.
What is your favorite thing to do in the whole wide world?
Play live shows. Nothing else gives the rush of a solid live show with great fans and friends that are all coming together to have a great time with us.
What is your biggest challenge when it comes to running your business?
Currently, we are all spread across Michigan. It makes practice/writing time a little more difficult, but we've learned to adjust to it and now make our time together more productive. We have utilized the power of the internet by creating a shared internet file for us to listen to the practices we record, and that helps us remember what happened, where we were going with a certain idea, etc. As much as it may be a burden being spread out, it also makes our time more valuable when we are together since no one wants to drive how-ever-long to get nothing done.
When you were a kid, what did you think you were going to be when you grew up?
I don't know about the other guys, but I have always wanted to be a involved with music. I assume that most of the group has always wanted to due to the fact that all of us have been in bands since we were able to. Two of our members went to college to get performance degrees, so I think all of us generally have wanted to live out this dream.
In what way has your community impacted your development as a musician?
Since we all grew up in Michigan, I'd say we are all eager to see other states and cities. We always have a great time traveling and meeting new people. Traveling is important in order to bring our live show to these places that normally would not get to see us. Our live show is an important aspect of our group and we want to reach as many people as possible in different areas of the country.
What other artists out there do you love?
Dave Matthews Band, Incubus, 311, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Robert Randolph, Bob Marley, Muse, Fiona Apple, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Radiohead, and hard working local musicians often bring inspiration.
What does your future hold?
More shows (festivals would be ideal), more cities, and hopefully more fans.
