PopLove is run by fashionable couple Andrea Hughes and Shai Wallach. PopLove’s mission is to create fabulous products with minimal harm to the surrounding world.
The modern fashion market has become an extremely wasteful industry, with hundreds of millions of garments tossed away each season. With this in mind, they set out to develop a growing trend – Eco Chic.
By using recycled materials, they not only reduce unnecessary textile production, but also benefit from the luxurious, delicate and softened nature of the material.
By focusing on handwork and attention to detail, each PopLove item is a unique creation. Each item is given individual treatment, allowing them to maintain control of the quality of its items throughout the production process.
Based in Tel Aviv, Israel, all of their items and materials are locally sourced and produced, minimizing transport fuel while supporting the local economy.
Tell me about how you originally got into your craft, Andrea.
Shai & I both got our start in different areas of the fashion industry, giving us a first-hand look at just how wasteful it is. We're both very creative people, so it was only a matter of time before we came up with the idea behind PopLove.
What is your favorite thing to do in the whole wide world?
Besides making beautiful creations from sustainable materials? We both really adore running our business, and it's ultimately our favorite thing to do! Besides that, we like the usual stuff; beach, art galleries, playing with our dog Noodle.
What is your biggest challenge when it comes to running your business?
Our biggest challenge is just getting our name out there. Publicity is so important when you're running a fashion business, so we work really hard to get PopLove's name out there.
When you were a kid, what did you think you were going to be when you grew up?
That's a tough question, I was one of those kids who was always changing their minds. A ballerina, a teacher, an inventor, a writer, a gardener, a fireman...
What item in your collection would you most like to receive as a gift if someone were shopping for you?
I'd LOVE to get this amazing belted tunic as a gift!
It's a little edgy & arty with the bleach-splatter print, and so versatile. You can wear it with or without the belt, with jeans or with tights, dress it up with some heels or down with flats.
What other artists out there do you love?
We're crazy about all kinds of artists out there! A couple of our favorites are:
What does your future hold?
Besides that, we've got a few plans underway. First of all, we're working on expanding to men's wear with a line of hand-printed organic cotton t-shirts. There's more coming from there, but we don't want to give away all our secrets yet!
