David Packouz

David Packouz was born in St. Louis, Missouri, the third of nine children of pioneering 'Internet Rabbi' Kalman Packouz. While living in Jerusalem and Miami he became fascinated by science, studied chemistry and philosophy and practiced massage therapy and international business.

He has teamed up with renowned South Florida based Guitarist, Bassist, Producer and Engineer Fernando Perdomo, Drummer and Percussionist Derek Cintron and Pianist Alan Gabay to record his first album of original music, titled MicroCOSM. The musical style is characterized by meaningful lyrics, harmonic buildups and soaring guitar solos. MicroCOSM is comprised of songs reflecting the very personal, yet universal, aspects of his life: the search for purpose, the traps of monotone mediocrity, getting past rough times in life, the drive to achieve, the love of family and humanity, the challenge to cherish every moment of life and finding peace with destiny.

How do you describe your music to people, David?

A combination of soft and hard rock, with an emphasis on harmonies and meaningful lyrics.

Tell me about how you originally got into your craft.
My mother taught me to play guitar and sing in harmony.  Out of her nine children, I was her protégé, so she constantly encouraged me to refine my singing and songwriting skills.  I have had a very interesting life so far, which has given me some excellent material to write songs about.

What is your favorite thing to do in the whole wide world?
Spending time with my daughter doing something she finds thrilling.

What is your biggest challenge when it comes to running your business?
Balancing the need to play late nights with family life

When you were a kid, what did you think you were going to be when you grew up?
An astronaut and inventor - I still haven't given up on this!

In what way has your community impacted your development as a musician?
I grew up listening to Jewish music, which places a lot of emphasis on stories and life lessons - which shows up in my lyrics.  Living in Miami in the middle of the club scene added a tinge of a surreal electronic element to the atmospheric landscape of my sound.

What other artists out there do you love?
Pink Floyd, Simon and Garfunkel, Radiohead, The Beatles, U2, Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Chris Cornell, Jeff Buckley, etc. etc.

What does your future hold?
There are two major labels that have expressed interest in signing me... so we'll see how it goes!
