Charles Parker Spencer Jr is a musician of the Old School. The grandson of an American slave, his grandfather was five years old when slavery ended in North America. Now at the age of 74, Spencer seeks to create a better world for the generations that come after him. After being a hair stylist in Harlem for many years, he won second prize at the Apollo Amateur Show one evening and never looked back. He has since won a small part in the film The Fighting Temptations and continues to share his music whenever he can as he enjoys his retirement.

I won the NY Apollo Am show playing an instrument.
What is your favorite thing to do in the whole wide world?
What is your biggest challenge when it comes to running your business?
I'm all done since I have retired.
When you were a kid, what did you think you were going to be when you grew up?
Never thought about it.
In what way has your community impacted your development as a musician?
Club owners liked my style, and I've been able to make a living entertaining.
