LilygraceOriginals is a treasure trove of one of a kind Jewels, Dolls and Paintings. Hazel's style is very colourful and decorative, inspired by vintage finds, Mexican folk art, Frida Kahlo, Miriam Haskell, vintage circuses . . . . many things!

Tell me about how you originally got into your craft, Hazel.
I've always made things, as a child I used to mess about with all sorts of bits and pieces, making dolls clothes, building dens in the garden, drawing, making necklaces from shells . . .
and I have never stopped!

Over the years I have worked with many different media, eg. stained glass, embroidery, patchwork, lampwork glass beads, dummy board painting, but my absolute favourites are jewellery, doll making and painting.

Lately, making jewellery has been winning because I love it so much, I like to combine lots of different elements such as my hand modelled polymer clay pieces, gemstones and vintage treasures.

Every so often I do like to make dolls but they take so long to make that they are not really financially viable

What is your favorite thing to do in the whole wide world?
Only one thing?

Going to see my favourite band Muse play.
They are fantastic live, I have seen them three times already and am going to see them in November.
Making things.
Having dinner with all the family home, my son is at university now so it doesn't happen very often!
Swimming in the sea.

What is your biggest challenge when it comes to running your business?
Finding enough time to get properly organised and to execute my new ideas - I have two children, a husband whose business I help out with and a part time job at the local Playgroup, which I love.

So the house gets left off the list of priorities sometimes

What item in your shop would you most like to receive as a gift if someone were shopping for you?
Whatever I've just finished!

I really like these earrings and my Frida doll

When you were a kid, what did you think you were going to be when you grew up?
An artist and a mother

What other shops or artists out there do you love?
On Etsy there are so many - vusova has the most gorgeous drawings, titarubli has fantastic Mexican silver jewellery, VigilanteLabs made me a fabulous skirt, Morelle makes great bags (I have one of her orange Truffles), I am always eyeing up the goodies in FIGistanbul, shixie makes the cutest little tin dress earrings, kateblack . . . .please stop me!

Artists/designers I find inspiring include Frida Kahlo, Matisse, Monet, Miriam Haskell,Jean Cocteau, Cecil Beaton

What does your future hold?
Wow, that's a hard one - seeing Muse in November ?
(not that I'm obsessed or anything!)

I hope my children will be happy and healthy
and that I can carry on making things I love ....
