Tell me about how you originally got into your craft, Matt.
I was thirteen years old and Dookie came out and it changed my life. I dove right into punk rock and begged for a guitar for Christmas. Dan (our bass player) and I were best friends at the time and he begged for a bass, thus forming our first band. We learned lots and lots of Green Day songs!
How do you describe your music to people?
We're a twangy rock and roll band. We draw heavily on folk and rootsy music, as well as country, but ultimately we're a loud, boozy rock and roll band.
What is your favorite thing to do in the whole wide world?
I think drinking some beer and having some laughs with the guys in my band is probably my favorite thing to do. Sometimes we do that while also playing guitars and that's pretty fun too.
What is your biggest challenge when it comes to running your business?
Keeping from getting burnt out is a tough one. You hear so many "No"s and struggle every day just to keep doing what you love, it's easy to get discouraged. But then you remember that even having the option to keep going is not a bad place to be.
When you were a kid, what did you think you were going to be when you grew up?
A guitar player in a band, working in a cool bar and having lots of awesome friends. I MADE IT!
In what way has your community impacted your development as a musician?
Boston has a huge impact on our band, in more ways than we realize I think. For one, we've grown up w/ a very supportive group of people around us, with everyone involved in their own creative endeavors. In other ways, the negativity that surrounds this city can have an effect on you, whether you choose to wallow in it with everyone else or use that energy to be a positive force.
What other artists out there do you love?
Lucero, My Morning Jacket, Jean Claude Jam Band, Homesick Radio
What does your future hold?
We will be a very successful band in a year or so. And we will party together.
