Gala Glass Giveaway

Gala Glass is a family business headed by Angelo Tiozzo: a glass artist born in Murano, Italy. They carry a huge selection of unique handmade glass figurines, glass jewelry, glass ornaments, blown glass lamps and accessories! Whether you're looking to impress with handmade jewelry, adding to your collection of fine crystal glass art or looking for great gift ideas for that special someone, you will find it at Gala Glass.

Tell me about how you originally got into your craft, Angelo.
I was born in Murano, Italy (a small island close to Venice), known worldwide for its deep tradition in glassmaking.

My family was quite poor, so when I was eleven years old I started working in the famous Murano glass factories. That was over 50 years ago now and I'm still making handmade creations - and still really enjoying it!

What is your favorite thing to do in the whole wide world?
I really take great pleasure in spending time with my family. Whether it's around the dinner table, going for a walk or working with them (my wife and my two sons also work at Gala Glass).

What is your biggest challenge when it comes to running your shop?
As an artist, the biggest challenge is to create pieces that people are attracted to. What is popular one year may not be popular the next. Finding inspiration for new creations is always the biggest challenge.

What item in your shop would you most like to receive as a gift if someone were shopping for you?
I really like the wine stoppers. In the Italian culture, wine is a staple. The wine stoppers brings back memories of my culture and of my family back home in Italy.

When you were a kid, what did you think you were going to be when you grew up?
I started working in the famous Murano glass factories when I was eleven and I always knew that this is what I would do. I always found the process of taking crystal rods and transforming them into something completely different and of such beauty, an amazing thing.

What other shops or artists out there do you love?
There are many great glassmakers out there but I still really respect the work of Giorgio Bertolla, a good childhood friend and artist who still lives in Murano.

What does your future hold?
Today as in the future, I seek to find creations that appeal to people. I love what I do and always try to create the highest quality possible.
