Bathing In Luxury

Hiromi of Bathing In Luxury makes and sells soaps and other bath and body goodies made from scratch, mostly from food-grade oils.

Tell me about how you originally got into your craft, Hiromi.
I've been creating since I was young. My Mom was a wonderful self-taught seamstress and made micro-crocheted items, my Dad was an excellent woodworker and my Aunt taught me to crochet when I was 5. As cliched as it sounds, my bath & body business started out as a hobby. I figured if I sold some creations, I could purchase more scents for myself.

What is your favorite thing to do in the whole wide world?
Hanging with people I like, being outdoors and creating.

What is your biggest challenge when it comes to running your shop?
Carving out time to create. One downside to being self-employed is dealing with all the small administrative and infrastructure details. I'd much rather create than spend time wondering why my electronic gadget isn't working properly.

What item in your shop would you most like to receive as a gift if someone were shopping for you?
Hm, that's a tough question. I like sampling so my Mystery Sampler, but I have to admit I'd love anything in my 3 favorite scents: Stroke Me, Exotic Spicy Fig or Blue.

When you were a kid, what did you think you were going to be when you grew up?
A veterinarian or scientist.

What other shops or artists out there do you love?
I have so many favorites, I can spend all day typing this list. Mincingmockingbird, LeahGiberson, Paulus, KittyEmpire3, LingGlass, Harrilu, and Willotoons are just a few of my favs.

What does your future hold?
Creating more nose- and skin- pleasing scents and products. Hopefully continued growth and happiness making soaps. I hope to grow the wholesale side, especially with local businesses.

Bathing In Luxury will be showing at Renegade SF Craft in July, so be sure to check it out if you're in the area!
