goose grease

michelle crafton of goose grease offers hand-painted and non-toxic dolls to be used as toys, mantle pieces, or keepsakes as well as cupcake and wedding cake toppers.

Tell me about how you originally got into your craft.
originally, i just wanted some cute wooden dolls for my daughter. i couldn't find anything that suited me, so i decided to try my hand at it. turns out painting people on little pieces of wood was my hidden talent.

What is your favorite thing to do in the whole wide world?
to eat marshmallow crepes with my husband at max brenner and/or "dance" around the apartment to the 80s with my husband and 2-year-old daughter (she's our dancing queen) and/or to visit my friends and family down south. i just can't narrow it down to less than that.

What is your biggest challenge when it comes to running your shop?
hmmm... not wearing my pjs to work. other than that, balancing all of work and family. i work at home, so too often it's hard to go completely mom/wife mode or completely work mode. i guess i'm always wearing three hats at once. happy to say, i've got lots of help from my husband and from my business/painting partner, kelly. and my daughter's pretty patient with me. they all keep me sane.

So what's up with the name?
goose grease is a nickname my dad had for me when i was little. . . it's not a reference to dwight schrute from the office or to goose droppings.

What item in your shop would you most like to receive as a gift if someone were shopping for you?
definitely some cupcake toppers. we always do cupcakes for chloe's birthday party, so i'd really dig those.

When you were a kid, what did you think you were going to be when you grew up?
a teacher, a veterinarian, a horse rider, etc, etc. pretty much everything besides a doll painter.

What other shops or artists out there do you love?
