Fairchildart Dollhouse Miniatures

Fairchildart Dollhouse Miniatures are an assortment of dollhouse sized foods to adorn one inch scale kitchens and real life culinary dwellings! Kim strives to make each miniature of the highest quality and utmost realism. Every spice and sliced fruit is added with care to make a unique piece of art for a spoiled doll or avid collector.

Tell me about how you originally got into your craft, Kim.
I've always been enthralled with miniatures - my mom was a big collector and there's just something incredibly enchanting about these works of art and how something so realistic can be reflected on such a small scale (especially food). I started out by picking up a few how-to books on clay sculpture and immediately gravitated towards mini cuisine. My very first sculpture was a cherry pie and I was thrilled at the versatility of clay and how simple techniques could have amazing results. I moved on from there by using pictures of real food and built up from the basics I learned from tutorials.

What is your favorite thing to do in the whole wide world?
Drawing with graphite pencil or making miniatures! The more detailed the better, to immerse yourself in a big project is the best stress relief because the concentration required is a lot like meditating.

What is your biggest challenge when it comes to running your shop?
Picture taking, by far! I'm not the best photographer and I still have a lot to learn when it comes to lighting and tweaking with photoshop.

What item in your shop would you most like to receive as a gift if someone were shopping for you?
The Valentine's Day Cupcakes - I love the pink and white, plus there's a special something inside the miniature card

When you were a kid, what did you think you were going to be when you grew up?
A firefighter or an astronaut. Neither of those panned out unfortunately!

What other shops or artists out there do you love?
Petitplat - she's incredibly nice, helpful and an amazing talent at miniature foods!

MiniPlants by Bev Gallerani - mindblowingly realistic dollhouse sized (and smaller!) plants

NJD Miniatures - Vicky's another wonderful inspiration, her meats, breads and cheeses are just unbelivable

What does your future hold?
I'll keep making miniatures as often as I can. I really would love to become a Fellow of the International Guild of Miniature Artisans - what an honor that would be!
