Another Bunnylove Production

Another Bunnylove Production offers original hand painted pop art creations filled with odd characters (and not so odd characters) that have meaning to Candian artist Rhonda.

Tell me about how you originally got into your craft.
It all started when I was a little kid...
Growing up an Italian catholic with a nun and a preist in the family, I was exposed to all sorts of religious imagery. I was particulary attracted to the elaborate paintings of saints and dieties. 30 something years later, having been away from the church and it's religion, these images have stuck with me.

About 7 years ago, my wife bought me a tattoo as a birthday present. I knew what I wanted....a tattoo of my dog Bruno (I love my dog) being portrayed as a saint. Picture a dog's face being surounded by "rays of light" sporting a halo....Ah, at last...Saint Bruno was created!

Several years later, my wife and I adopted our second dog. I thought of my tattoo of Bruno and wanted to create a picture of our new dog, Edie. That's where it all started, I was intimidated by painting but always wanted to give it a try so I did. I painted Edie in the same style of my tattoo of Bruno...St. Edie was created. My wife loved it so she downloaded the painting to her facebook. People actually commented that they liked it. I never really considered myself to be a painter but was so encouraged by the comments, I decided to explore painting further. I taught myself by painting reproductions of other's works. I did this for several hours a day for several months until I was confident enough to explore my own style of painting....that's when Another Bunnylove Production was born.

Can you describe a bit about your process?
When I paint, I paint out my memories, my hopes, my fears.

First I think of a person who I want to paint. Then I search for a candid photo that depicts the person or character as I see them. I spend a lot of time choosing the colours for my paintings. I'm usually not sure about the colours I want, I choose them from an emotional and intuitive filter. I often change colours midway through if the energy doesn't feel right to me.

What is your favorite thing to do in the whole wide world?

Quiet time at home snuggling with my beautiful wife and our 4 furry kids.

What is your biggest challenge when it comes to running your shop?
Definitely advertising and marketing. I'm in a very long learning curve at the moment.

What item in your shop would you most like to receive as a gift if someone were shopping for you?
My Wonder Woman painting. I grew up watching her (Linda Carter) on TV. I loved her and wanted so badly to be like her. My friends used to play our version of wonder woman (of course, I was her). I remember one day in particular; I was "rescuing" my friend from an imaginary force of evil.... I thought I was so cool running with her in my arms... I really didn't see the gigantic puddle before me...needless to say were entirely soaked and bruised...we didn't get hurt but my ego sure did.

When you were a kid, what did you think you were going to be when you grew up?
Even back when I was little, I loved old jazz music. My dream was to become a famous singer. I loved Ella Fitzgerald and wanted to sing just like her. I'm now singing in a jazz band (not my real job) called the swingsations. Still haven't figured out the famous part though.

What other shops or artists out there do you love?
My fave shop is Attila Designs. Her furniture works are amazing.
Another one of my favorites is Soule's shop Urban Soule, I adore her art.

I love searching unusual shops, the weirder the better.
Also enjoy anything vintage.

What does your future hold?
I try to live my life on a day to day basis, trusting that my life is unfolding as it should....
