Jane of DaisyJaneDesigns creates jewelry made of fine silver or bronze, both of which start out in a clay form. The clay consists of tiny particles of either bronze or pure silver suspended in an organic (plant material) binder. The clay is formed, textured, sanded, and fired either in a kiln or with a torch. She also loves to use gemstones and textures to bring a vintage feel to her work.

Tell me about how you originally got into your craft.
I've always dabbled in different crafts: painting, glass work, crochet, etc. About 2 years ago I was off of work for 3 weeks because I had mono. All I was able to do all day was lie in bed and watch TV. Craft shows of course! One day I saw someone using this amazing material that I had never seen before; precious metal clay or PMC. I dragged myself out of bed long enough to research it online. I've been doing it ever since.

What is your favorite thing to do in the whole wide world?
I love to work in my studio and listen to music really loud. Even more than that, I love to work in my studio while my husband watches The Twilight Zone on DVD in the next room. It's quite the surreal experience; hearing and not seeing. I can almost tell you every episode I was listening to while I was making a particular piece.

What is your biggest challenge when it comes to running your shop?
Taking good pictures! My pictures are quite the improvement from when I started but I always have room for more improvement. When I first started I didn't think pictures were going to be that important...I'm not sure what I was thinking. Now I take and retake pictures regularly. I've come to realize that good pictures are one of the most important things to focus on.

What item in your shop would you most like to receive as a gift if someone were shopping for you?
I would love to get my Black Queen Cocktail Ring. I wear the one in the pictures almost every day. The natural black spinel is one of the most beautiful stones I've ever seen. The tapestry style band reminds me of medieval English royalty.

When you were a kid, what did you think you were going to be when you grew up?
An astronaut! Although I'm not zipping around in outer space I DO have my head in the stars. I guess I almost made it.

What other shops or artists out there do you love?
My favorite PMC artist is Hadar Jacobson. Someday I would love to take one of her classes.
My favorite Etsy shop is arabbitgirl.etsy.com The only reason I don't own anything of hers is because my husband and I cannot decide what we want!

What does your future hold?
I don't need to be rich and famous. I would just like to be able to make and sell my jewelry enough to please myself and those who love it, and to pay my bills. If fame and fortune happens to be part of that, so be it!
