The May of Teck Club

The May of Teck Club is an outlet for the artwork, handmade sketchbooks, and any other novelties dreamt up by artist Emily Andrews. Her petite artwork generally consists of oil paintings, and pen and detailed intricate ink line drawings. Her artwork always comes framed and ready to hang so that they can immediately become a part of your life.

How did you come up with the name of your shop?
The name, "May of Teck Club," is taken from one of my favorite books, The Girls of Slender Means by Muriel Spark. It refers to a boarding house, which was founded by Princess May of Teck in the first World War, for the pecuniary convenience and social protection of single young ladies living in London. It's a very sweet little book.

Tell me about how you originally got into your craft.
I found out that I loved to draw when I was a very little girl. As I was growing up, art was always my favorite hobby. It has always been a very important part of my life.

What is your favorite thing to do in the whole wide world?
Golly, that's a tough question. I suppose I love hiking with my boyfriend Ray the most. Either that, or searching out antique books at used book stores.

What is your biggest challenge when it comes to running your shop?
Ever since my digital camera broke, my biggest challenge is taking photos! But I make do.

What item in your shop would you most like to receive as a gift if someone were shopping for you?
I am very attached to my portrait of Mary Ford

She is my all-time favorite singer, and it was a really fun portrait to paint.

When you were a kid, what did you think you were going to be when you grew up?
I guess I thought I would be an artist. Actually, since I was a kid, I've always had a secret dream of becoming a famous musician. Too bad I have stage fright!

What other shops out there do you love?
Oh dear, I have so many favorites. - Badass cross-stichery. [see her interview here - Ed.]
- Very awesome tee shirts. - Impeccable graphic design. - Lots of fun stuff with a great sense of humor. - Such beautiful artwork. - Very sweet jewelry. - A Ramones fan's dream. - More incredible artwork. - As cute as it gets.

What does your future hold?
God only knows!

Emily's latest artistic endeavor is eggshell portraits - portraits of people who inspire Emily, etched by hand onto hollow eggshells. Go see them at! You should also check out her collaboration with Ray at where they sell one of a kind, hand-drawn tee shirts!
