Miss Millificent's World

Miss Millificent's World offers the art and whimsy of athena workman, a self-taught lifelong artist. Her primary focus is on drawings, but the shop also offer prints (both traditionally and digitally colored) of her artwork, as well as photography and jewelry. You can also find the occasional one of a kind framed drawing or canvas.

Long time readers know how much I adore the darker twistier side of art, so I was totally stoked to get to know Ms. Workman! Her artwork strikes just the right balance between macabre and adorable to suit my tastes!

Tell me about how you originally got into your craft.
There are two answers to this. I began drawing at age two, mostly ballerinas. I drew all the time growing up, but I *really* wanted to be a writer, and focused on that until my mid-thirties. When I got writer's block, and my daughters became old enough that they really didn't need me all the time (much of the time- sniff), I turned back to art. Thank goodness the art world's been much easier than getting published.

What is your favorite thing to do in the whole wide world?
Going to Walt Disney World. I know, it's corny and it kills my feet and makes my ankles swell, but I absolutely adore the place.

What is your biggest challenge when it comes to running your shop?
Keeping up with it: making sure things don't expire, getting the word out about sales or specials. Just getting the word out *period* that I'm here!

What item in your shop would you most like to receive as a gift if someone were shopping for you?
My "Momma Loves 'Maters" canvas. I'm totally in love with this piece, which I did for the 2008 Tomato Art Fest. It didn't sell, and if it doesn't sell before its listing expires, I'm perfectly happy to hang it on my wall.

When you were a kid, what did you think you were going to be when you grew up?
A cop, or a private detective. When I realized I'm just a big chicken, I wanted to go into advertising.

What other shops out there do you love?
Oh, wow, there's so many! I'll give shout-outs to some of the lovely ladies who comment on my blog:

The Copper Cauldron
Tote N Tots

And a couple of great artist friends here in town:
Wednesday Wandered
JK Lee

What does your future hold?
More handcramps, more markers, more art! I'm actually working on a series of broken-down marionettes that I think will turn out fantastically. My goal for 2009 is to try to get into a gallery on the local gallery crawl. More people, more views, and maybe a few more sales!
