HMSlatex is the brainchild of Sophie, a latex designer based in Paris, France. I think I will let the fascinating Sophie speak for herself!

Tell me about how you originally got into your craft.
I've always been fascinated by people who wore complicated outfits. They stood out to me as somewhere in between superheroes and fairies or magicians. I had my gothic period, where I started making my own garments and then making some for a shop. But I don't really get along well with sewing machines. When I discovered latex, it was an epiphany. No sewing involved (latex is glued), the possibilities are infinite and the results always a bit otherworldly.

What is your favorite thing to do in the whole wide world?
Enjoying the freedom of being my own boss. It's been a couple of years now but every day, I enjoy crafting, being able to walk the streets of Paris during the day to run my errands, being able to take the time to create and nurture my ideas. I also watch lots of TV series on my computer while working and listen to a lot of music.

What is your biggest challenge when it comes to running your shop?
Taking some time off. It is a rule that I spend evenings and week ends going out and spending time with my husband. But I love what I do so much that it can be difficult sometimes to stop thinking of new designs.

What item in your shop would you most like to receive as a gift if someone were shopping for you?
Probably the Charm Bolero. It is one of my most personal designs, I think, and I'm very proud of its success. It is a very versatile piece of clothing and you can also wear it with your vanilla wardrobe to give it a shiny touch.

When you were a kid, what did you think you were going to be when you grew up?
I spent my time drawing and wanted to become a comics designer. I was a lot into mangas and I have realized recently that many manga characters such as the Cat's Eyes girls played a major role in my falling in love with latex. Now drawing plays a major part in my work for HMSlatex.

What other shops out there do you love?
I own one of Valhallabrooklyn's bags and it is the most beautiful bag I've ever had. The leather is so beautiful I could eat it!

Pillow Designs by joom. I need more cushions in my place! More colours!

Botanicraft's pieces are so delicate and enchanting.

What does your future hold?
I have a runway show at Fetish Evolution in april in Germany. It's going to be my biggest ever! Cross your fingers for me! And plenty of new designs. I have a book full, I just need the time now to make some! I need to work on a men's catalog. I have lots of male customers but I have neglected to show them some shiny novelties on my shop!
