Crickets Creations Handcrafted Fashion Scarves

Crickets Creations Handcrafted Fashion Scarves is the lovechild of Crickets, a full-time artist specializing in Handmade Gift Scarves using only soft, cruelty free, designer, vintage or novelty yarns. No allergenic wool/animal fibers.

As a member of Etsy Street Team VeganEtsy, she currently has a scarf featured in the January 2009 issue of Vegetarian Times. Check it out!

She also has super cool glasses that I kind of want to steal. She's lucky she's all the way out in Utah and we had to do this interview online.

Tell me about how you originally got into your craft.
Well, I learned to knit by making a washcloth for an elective class in 3rd grade, as an 8 year old. I "went pro" and started selling my scarf designs in August 2007. My fiance, Nicky, asked me to make him a scarf (he picked out the colors and yarns, you can see that very first design here).

I didn't believe him at first, but with his encouragement I made a few and took them to a local boutique--she bought 6 of the 8 I had and I was hooked!

What is your favorite thing to do in the whole wide world?
Be outside, especially on a sunny day! Even better is to knit or garden outside...

What is your biggest challenge when it comes to running your shop?
I feel like I have been given so much! My fiance, Nicky, has supported and encouraged me from the very beginning (he's my muse and inspiration and the very reason I started this whole, crazy scarf biz).

My customers treat me like a queen; they not only come back again and again for more of my scarves, they leave me amazing feedback and often even send me cards & gifts as a thank you for creating for them!

On top of all that, I belong to 10 fun Etsy teams full of learning & comraderie.

So, my biggest challenge is that I could never give back as much as I receive!

What item in your shop would you most like to receive as a gift if someone were shopping for you?
I want 'em all! ;) I'm a Gemini and it's so hard to choose "just one," so I have a scarf for every mood, every outfit.

If I haaaddd to choose just one, then my "So, I guess I have a kindergartener's taste in colors- I think copper, orange, pink, yellow, turquoise, green and black DO match, hee hee" scarf would be my "desert island" scarf. It matches with almost everything, it's fun and interesting and joyful.

When you were a kid, what did you think you were going to be when you grew up?
I thought I was going to run an orphanage at one point. I also thought I would like to be a "cowboy" and spent many nights *trying to* sleep on the floor by my bed so I would "be tough" for sleeping on the cold, hard ground by the fire at night, out on the open range!

What other shops out there do you love?
Savor Soaps
Mistflower Studio Mosaics
Brown Bunny By Iris Hats
Phydeaux Accessories
Lorelei's Atelier Jewelry

What does your future hold?
Love, fun & family!
