Bugga Bugs

In a world of electronic everything sometimes it’s nice to step back to basics and just pretend.

Bugga Bugs is the place to go for childhood imagination and creativity! Everything at Bugga Bugs has been thoroughly tested by the ones who matter most… kids! All patterns are carefully thought out and detail-oriented for hours of learning fun and imaginative play.

Patterns are made locally by Annika, a stay at home mom from Oregon who agreed to an interview with us.

Tell me about how you originally got into your craft.
Bugga Bugs began when I decided to make some felt food for my son. It took a lot of work and serious thought before I finally imagined how to make a.... doughnut. hehe. That got the gears in my head turning and I thought to myself, "I'll bet other moms out there are trying to do the same thing!"

What is your favorite thing to do in the whole wide world?
Spending time with my husband and 3 year old son is my favorite thing in the world. In our spare time we love to explore the great outdoors and go for walks. My husband and I recently started to dabble in photography so that's been a really fun thing for us to do together.

What is your biggest challenge when it comes to running your shop?
Time! Between answering questions, e-mails, making new patterns, filling orders and other daily tasks I could easily spend all day and night working on my shop if I chose to. Things were a bit demanding the first few months and I felt a bit overwhelmed but I am now settling into somewhat of a routine that seems to work well for everyone. Family must always come first!

What item in your shop would you most like to receive as a gift if someone were shopping for you?
I love interactive pieces! I would be thrilled to receive the good ol' fashioned "Sack Lunch" or "Fun Fruit" as gifts. I love how the fruit pieces tuck into their skins and the sandwich and banana are so fun to take apart and put together.

When you were a kid, what did you think you were going to be when you grew up?
Hahaha - so many things. Among the top: If I wasn't going to be a famous actress I new I was at least going to become a broadway star. The roll I was determined to play? Eponine from Les Miserables. Nothing came of it but I must say that because of this dream I have an amazing talent for singing in the shower! I also tend to randomly burst into song when certain situations fit to lyrics.

Hopes and dreams of being randomly "discovered" by the right people were crushed one night as I was rocking my son to sleep. I was looking down at him and singing a lullabye when he suddenly got a very disgusted look on his face, reached his hand up, covered my mouth and said, "No sing, Mommy". hehe. I think I'll stick to patterns - he seems to like those.

What other shops out there do you love?
I am currently digging the the Button Soap from HelloCrafty, paintings at jellybeans, all the cute little things at cookiedough, the great dining out travel bib from odannysgirl, the robot/spaceship/and rocketship prints from leearthaus, the classic designs from chirpstudio, the retro apron from punchanella, and the cute things at sweetnsassybaby.

What does your future hold?
In the near future we will be welcoming a new family member! Our second child, another boy, is due April 5! We can't wait and "big brother" couldn't be happier (he was very adamant about letting us know that having a girl was not an option). Also in the future... more patterns!!

Bugga Bugs is featuring a buy 5 get 1 free promotion, so now is a great time to stock your craft closet with her amazing patterns! (And Annika, I TOTALLY wanted to play Eponine when I was a kid!)
