Brown Bunny by Iris

Brown Bunny by Iris offers an array of designer hats. Ones you can easily wear everyday and then others you just want to have to look very special for certain occasions, like parties, artist exhibitions, etc. Berlin artist Iris Lohninger's unusual creations definitely make a statement, and I hear several of her hats have shown up on movie sets! I am a huge fan of the one at pictured above.

So Iris, tell me about how you originally got into your craft.
I was always fascinated by hats - I remember paging through art and social history books - all these different cultures producing so many interesting designs combining function with lots of....magic! Yes, I really think hats are magical things. Think of the crowns of kings and queens, think of the designs religious ceremony masters came up with, indigenous tribes, think of the military, or just think of baseball caps! Wearing hats makes oneself feel in a very special way - it's a great way to express oneself by choosing this or that design. Wearing the right hat really is the dot on the i ! In the end my love of designing hats simply comes from my love of wearing them and graduating from a fashion design school in Vienna gave me the necessary technical know how and background.

What is your favorite thing to do in the whole wide world?
My favorite things in the whole wide world are dressing up, cooking and giving dinner parties! I have a room full of clothes and accessories. I own a collection of vintage dresses, vintage shoes and vintage hats, even vintage sunglasses which I mix with some cool pieces of current fashion. I use all sorts of jewelry and fragrance to make it perfect. I give fun little dinner parties to share my outfits with the world and hang out with my cool friends.

What is your biggest challenge when it comes to running your shop?
My biggest challenge is time. I spend an immense amount of time on my creations, which are always one-of-a-kind creations. I have to go through new fabrics and patterns and vintage destash! Not to forget all the time I spend when I'm dreaming my creations.

What item in your shop would you most like to receive as a gift if someone were shopping for you?
If somebody were shopping for me in my store I would be totally happy to receive a hat like Ophelia you swift little bird!

When you were a kid, what did you think you were going to be when you grew up?
When I was a kid I either wanted to be a pop star, actress or a fashion designer. I love the stage! I love people! I love fashion!

What other shops out there do you love?
I love thevintagecloset

I love Tooli's Jewelry

I love Rose La Biche

I love Malam

I love Meetalls

It's hard for me to stop!

What does your future hold?
I see myself creating more fashion accessories and having fun with it. I'm also a painter and see myself doing many more exhibitions.
I think fashion in general (not only hats) is immensely fascinating - as fascinating as any other kind of art, be it fine arts or music or poetry. And I think we could need more fashion still! I'm fascinated by fashion of all forms.
