Thrifty Collage Artist

Thrifty Collage Artist sells original paintings in addition to Art Journal Pages, which are wonderfully colorful mixed media collages. Suzan Buckner, the Thrifty Collage Artist herself, sat down with us for an interview.

Tell me about how you originally got into your craft.
I had an antique store in our town, and needed something to do while I worked there every day. I had always collected old paper, and decided to start making collages. The collages lead me to Art Journaling and painting. Now, it's just a blend of whatever I feel like doing.

What is your favorite thing to do in the whole wide world?
My favorite thing to do in the whole world is to sleep. I LOVE sleeping. I never get enough of it, and have always had trouble staying asleep. The next thing would be consuming chocolate. If I could sleep and consume chocolate, I would probably never wake up.

What is your biggest challenge when it comes to running your shop?
Making items that people love enough to purchase. I change my style often, so it is hard to build a collector base.

What item in your shop would you most like to receive as a gift if someone were shopping for you?
The painting called "Rodeo to Paris". It's large, and muted, and really beautiful. Also, it's sealed in beeswax, so it has a wonderful feel and smell to it.

When you were a kid, what did you think you were going to be when you grew up?
Rich. I always wanted to be rich, but had no clue about HOW I was going to become rich. I will be 44 next week, and I am still trying to figure it out.

What other shops out there do you love?
There are too many to list. I love looking at Etsy stores, and do many of the different searches that they offer, daily.

What does your future hold?
Hopefully, good health for my family and I. If we can do that, I will be thankful and happy. I pretty much just let God handle whatever he wants to happen in my future.

I am also looking forward to see where the new President takes our country. I have started a new art journal just to record the next four years.
