Diffraction

Chicago-based Diffraction showcases fine art photography as well as jewelry featuring some of the prints available in the shop in a "smaller, wearable way." Just like their larger counterparts, they are striking images meant to capture the imagination, inspire and reexamine the world. The images really are vibrant and alluring! I love these leaves here especially, but you should definitely look at what else is on offer at Diffraction.

Tell me about how you originally got into your craft.
My shop came from a love of photography and wanting to be able to share that with people in a different fashion. My jewelry features my fine art photography in a smaller, wearable way. Just like their larger counterparts, they are striking images meant to capture the imagination, inspire and reexamine your world.

What is your favorite thing to do in the whole wide world?
Eat amazing modern food and see a great theatre production. I'm definitely a foodie, I love good, creative food. Chicago is such a hot spot for great fusion food and fabulous ethnic neighborhoods to grab authentic cuisine. Best of both worlds! And in college I was a theatre major so a night out of great theatre is just perfect for me. You can find a plethora of new world premiere scripts as well as old favorites.

What is your biggest challenge when it comes to running your shop?
Well, I currently work a full time job in addition to running Diffraction full time. It's a bit exhausting when craft fairs are coming up or wholesale orders are due. But its all worth it and hopefully one day Diffraction will be 100% of my time.

What item in your shop would you most like to receive as a gift if someone were shopping for you?
The Plumage Bracelet is really stunning and makes a great gift because its adjustable, so even if you don't know someone's size you can be sure it'll fit and they'll love it!

When you were a kid, what did you think you were going to be when you grew up?
Oh man, so many things! When I was in elementary school I wanted to be an archeologist and made little models of king tut's tomb and things. Then I wanted to be a teacher, and a professional ice skater, an environmental engineer, a lawyer, and all sorts of other things. I've always wanted to have a plan and I've had a million of them.

What other shops out there do you love?
Anniepoo has a wonderfully playful creativity. Love her stuff!

Juniper Berry is amazing! Her stationery is colorful and inventive combining vintage and modern.

Bath Life has the most rich and moisturizing body butter that my hands just can't live without.

What does your future hold?
I am looking to expand Diffraction to include graphic printed purses, caped scarves and more. Within a year I'm looking to move Diffraction into a full time job expanding to more wholesale accounts.
