Persephone Plus is the first exclusively plus sized gothic clothing site on the web. In addition to her main storefront you can also find a great selection of accessories, jewelry, and other items at her Etsy store. I especially love her line of steampunk jewelry! Here is what she had to say when we sat down with her:

Tell me about how you originally got into your craft.
I got into making things because, frankly, I either couldn't BUY what I wanted (as it didn't exist), or was too expensive. Poverty is the mother of invention, in my case. Back in the 80's...when I was very young, "gothic" clothing was not something you could just run down to the local Hot Topic to buy.....rare specialty shops on Melrose ( I grew up in Venice Beach, CA) had things...(hi there, Retail Slut!), but mostly it was make it yourself, or go without. Being vain and greedy also helps!

What is your favorite thing to do in the whole wide world?
Egads. My favorite thing, wait for bad weather, curl up on a comfy couch with an EPIC film or miniseries, and zonk out completely for hours.

Yes...this is the answer of a person who works too much and who rarely clubs anymore!

Still....what makes my soul sing is to look at art, wander around a museum, be hugely inspired, and then come back to my studio and go crazy. It helps if there is sushi involved at some point, as well.

What is your biggest challenge when it comes to running your shop?
The.....seasonal nature of things. Feast or Famine. Oh how I would love a more steady stream, but I do just fine. This is my full time gig. I am extremely lucky. I was a registrar at a small university for years whilst doing this as well...that's hard. On your relationships, your sleep, everything.

What item in your shop would you most like to receive as a gift if someone were shopping for you?
I love ornate, bohemian, giant chandelier earrings and necklaces....I am rather sold down on those at the moment, as I just had a run.....a sweetlycrazy and wildly famous rock goddess found my little store and bought me half out last week! VERY exciting, but now I am scrambling to restock. Its funny, what I love best, and what sells like crazy, are often..incompatible. I have learned that I have NO idea what will sell or I just make what makes me smile, and see what happens.

When you were a kid, what did you think you were going to be when you grew up?
Heh......a clothing and jewelry designer, believe it or not! ....Also, I toyed around with Marine Biologist, too. I still love the sea, and all the creatures in it.

What other shops out there do you love?
I have an......Amazon..... problem. Also, a supplies.........problem. I can quit any time I want, you know.

An artist I really, really adore on Etsy would be Winona Cookie

Kind of a genius collage artist, that one.

What does your future hold?
Happiness, creativity, disappointment, happy surprises, success, mistakes, fresh bread, love, and sushi.

Thanks, Persephone!
